LLELA

On April 14, 2010 our class went on a field trip to LLELA, which stands for Lake Lewisville Environmental Learning Area. We had so much fun walking around on trails and learning about different types of animal adaptations. We also did a bug lab and got to look at some very interesting creatures under a hand lens.

Crawfish, Crayfish, or Crawdaddy and Snails

In science the class has been studying crayfish and snails. We have learned so many new things about these creatures such as, what they eat, where they live, and some of their different adaptations.

Kate Klise
Finally She Is Here!
Last week we were honored to have a special author come and visit our school. Kate Klise talked to the whole 4th grade all about being an author and how she comes up with all her amazing ideas. It was really cool to have her come and visit especially because she is a nomiated bluebonnet author for next year!

Here she is teaching us so many amazing things!
Alex Meza got called to go up and be her assistant. He did an awesome job!
Go Alex!
After Kate talked to all the kids, she was nice enough to sign everyone's books that were purchased.

We Tricked You!
Mrs. Wright, Mrs. Mecca, and I tricked every single one of you! We got you to believe that one of you runined a library book and Mrs. Wright kicked our entire class out of the library. We had to go back to the room and write letters to Mr. Barnett explaining what happened today in the library.

Here is Mrs. Wright and I acting like we were mad and trying to figure out whose book this was.

Man look at your faces!

You guys look really shocked!

Finally, here is Mrs. Wright letting us come back to the library because she has cooled down about the book. Now she is explaining to you all that we played a trick on you. Some of you were really confused at first as to what had just happened. We were trying to introduce you to our author Kate Klise that is coming to our school. She writes a lot her books in the form of letters to explain how things happened. That is why we made you all write letters to Mr. Barnett explaining what happened both times during the day. Hopefully none of you were too mad at us!

Digging Up Dinosaurs!

In science class we had a fun experiment where the kids got to be palentologist and dig up dinosaur bones. They had a really good time getting to do this activity. They were really careful not to break the bones and really inspect them. After they finished the experiment I filled them in on a little secret. The bones we used were really from chicken bones and not dinosaurs!

Tomas was our worker in this group and got to dig up the bones.

This group was deciding who was going to do each job before they started.

Here come the fossils!

What good scientist we have!

Some of the fossils that were found.

Now that we have become experts at digging up "chicken" bones, how many of you think this may possibly be a job that you would like to do one day? A palentologist would be an awesome job to have!
